Mr G. W. Vercoe has been re-elected president of the Waikato Racing Club (unopposed). Mr C. Trussell, of Queensland, has boon appointed assistant adjudicator for the forthcoming New Zealand Brass Band Contest. Mr J. W. May, of Loamington, is at present an inmate of the Waikato hospital. Last week he underwent an operation, and latest advice is that Mr May is making a satisfactory recovery. The estate of the late Sir George A. Wills, who died on July 12, has been certified at £10,000,000. The British exchequer will benefit to the extent of £-1,000,000 from the estate. The deceased was a former chairman of the Imperial Tobacco Company and was 74 years of age. He belonged to the family of millionaires, of whom since his father died 19 years ago, leaving a fortune/of over £5,000,000, three members had died each of whom left an estate of over £1,000,000. In the aggregate their fortunes' totalled about £26,000,000, and in death duties alone it is estimated that the British Treasury has benefitted to the extent of £10,000,000.
