LONG POLITICAL CAREER, - .A FORMER. MINISTER. On Thursday morning the death took, place ,at the. residence of-his daughter, Mrs Allen Evans,- at Masterton, of Hon. David Henry Guthrie, aged 71 years, after a short illness. Deceased leaves a widow, one daughter and five sons: The’ funeral took place -at Feilding yesterday. /■ A member of the Legislative Council and of the Executive Council, an(l a former Minister of Lands, deceased was bora in Ireland in the year 1856, and came; out to New Zealand in the year iS76. .. He ested-himself for several years in local body work and for ten years was chairman of the Wanganui Education Board. In 1908 Mr Guthrie was elected in the interests of Reform as member for Oroua: In 1911 -he was elected Whip to the Massey Government, which position', he held until' joining: the National Cabinet in February,.-1918,,> as Minister of Lands.
