THE BRYCE CASE. PALMERSTON X., Oct. 30. At'an inquiry in the Bryce ease, MiTaylor, who appeared for J. J. Biyce, said the hitter's (laughter Jessie had been ordered to the Palmorston North Hospital for an operation. Dr E. C. Barnett, a member of the honorary staff had objected to her admission though lie declined to furnish reasons in writing. The girl was discharged without an operation and though very ill and unable to walk was removed to a private hospital at Feilding. She was operated on for -appendicitis aliout ten days later, but complications had developed and she was ill for many months as the result. "It is hoped," said Mr Taylor, "that something will be done to slop the present system of drafting, for it is possible for grave wrongs to take place if a medical man can determine who is to go to a. private hospital and who to a public hospital. When a. patient is admitted proper treatment should he administered." Mr Bryce, Mrs Bryce, Miss Bryce, 'and James 11. Stevens gave evidence regarding the girl's treatment. James Neil Fraser, secretary of the Hospital Board, stated the Board's reason for refusing to hold an inquiry into the'case. The inquiry is to be continued today. __________„
