"PRINT" WRITING

The refusal of an official at the Whangarei Post Office Savings Bank to accept a child’s printed signature, and tho difficulty she had in signing in cursive writing was mentioned at the Auckland Education Board yesterday morning as an nspeet of the print writing system which had not been anticipated. It raised an important point, said Mr H. S. W. King. Mr Brownlee commented that it was at. the option of the teacher whether pupils were taught to print or write. Here was one of the most important subjects taught pupils and over which the Board had no control. He did not think the teacher had any right to introduce the system without the permission of the Board or the Department. Mr McPhail stated that the senior inspector had recommended the print system. It was decided to refer the aspect raised to the inspector for a report.
