TOO MANY FEMALES.

SEVENTEEN FEMALES TO TEN

MALES

Everybody knows that there is a heavy majority of the fair sex in England —an excess of nearly 2,000,000 was revealed by the census of 1921—but little, if anything, is known as to the distribution of this surplus. In Seaton, in Devon, there are only 84+ males to 1451 females, or over 17 of the latter to 10 of the former. At Bexhill there arc 12,853 females to only 7510 males. But there were places where the masculine superiority in numbers was almost equally pronounced. Tilbury had' only 3054 females to 5950 males, so that for every 10 Jills there were no fewer than 10 Jacks, while Gheriton, in Kent, had 4200 males and only 2734 females. Sussex was the county with the highest proportion of females, there being 1274 of thorn to every 1000 males, while Conmouth, at the other end of the scale, had only 940 to 1000 males.
