That it pays to advertise in the Waikato Independent has been abundantly proved beyond question by many of our district residents, and we are frequently told of the, results that have followed the insertion of advertisements. A few days ago a local resident, advertised tor a large quantity of fresh eggs. The response was so great that the advertiser was literally inundated with applicants, so much so that his requirements could have been filled over and ov.-r again. In fact lie was so pestered with enquiries that lie even dreamed of nothing but egg.-- And yet some people sav their advertisements are not read!

In his characteristic appropriate manner, Mr Fred, l.ye, M.P.. in the. course of his remarks during the presentation of trophies at the Pugby Union function on Thursday night, naively remarket! that in days gone by knights went on the field with gay bows ami knot.-? of ribbons to their spears to the support of their fair Sadies. Nathan, Mayor of Palmerston North, to a Times' reporter, on his return from Australia, "though the drought in the autumn has greatly affected the price of butter and cheese this season. In September, the prices obtained in Sydney and Melbourne were two months behind those of the previous season, and I should say that the output has dropped from 20 to 30 per cent." The Farmers' Auctioneering'Co. Ltd. reports having held a most successful clearing sale, on account of Messrs Ireland Bros., Karapiro, on Wednesday last. With the exception of a few stores and empty yearling heifers, the whole of the large entry was sold under the hammer, at prices that were most satisfactory to the vendors. The dairy cows, a good lot, realised up to £l9, and averaged well. The market for dairy stock certainly has a rising tendency.
