POLO TOURNAMENT

PROVINCIAL CUP GAMES. HAMILTON DEFEATS CAMBRIDGE. The provincial polo tournament, which opened at the Claudela.itels Showgrounds on Tuesday and will be continued for the remainder of the week, produced some very interesting play. One game in the Junior Cup Championship and two games in the Provincial Polo Cup Championship were decided during Tuesday. In the junior game Te Awaiuutu B won from Hamilton B by six goals to five, after a very interesting final spell. Cambridge drew the bye, and will meet Te Awamutu in the final on Friday morning.. In the senior game Hamilton beat Cambridge after a close and exciting match, while Te Awamutu, the holders of the cup, won easily from Waihou. The final between Hamilton and Te Awamutu will be played on Friday afternoon, HAMILTON (4) v. CAMBRIDGE (3). Hamilton and Cambridge teams opened the afternoon’s play. The teams were: — Hamilton: G. Ranstead, W. G. Pounlucy, J. Chitty and W. 11. Hume (capt). Cambridge: M. Garland, F. Vesper, R. Blennerhassctt and Sefton Banks (capt.). This game provided a close and interesting exhibition of polo, the seven spells being marked by many interesting rallies. The first spell ended without score, but in the second Chitty opened for his side. Cambridge equalised matters in the third spell, when Garland scored. In the fourth term Hume scored for Hamilton. In the fifth Garland again scored for Cambridge, and in the sixth Ranstead goaled for Hamilton. The seventh spell - ----- J ‘-and exciting rallies and Vesper goaled for Cambridge and Pountney for Hamilton. The game ended —Hamilton 4 goals, Cainbridgo 3 goals.
