TOWN HALL PICTURES “THE DEVIL WITHIN.” i _______ “The Devil Within,” a Fox production starring Dustin Farnurn, is to be screened on the new programme on Friday next at the Town Hall. The star has a dual role, and one that calls for two totally dissimilar characterisations —those of a sea captain, and, later on, as the skipper’s nephew. The narrative is somewhat, away from the ordinary, .and commences in virile fashion, showing the brutal manner in Which a seacaptain, by a liberal use of his firsts, subdues liis Malay crew: A witch, incensed at the action of the sailorman, puts a curse upon him, and try as he will the recollection of it cannot escape his memory: Later on it is brought back in a most painful manner, for his much-beloved nophew inherits the fearful temper of the brutal uncle. The story recalls in part Jack London’s story of “The Sea Wolf,” and should pleaso picturegoers who enjoy the virile tales of the sea. There are good supports with the main picture.

Wihich made “Humoresque” stand out fai" above all others has been woven intoXthis picture. Genius alone could do it)\_and it has been done. Norman Kerry, who will be re- , membered for his work in “Buried Treasure*’ ’ etc., gives a realistic impression of ‘ ‘ Blaekie ’ ’ Daw. Fannie Jasper is.cleverly portrayed by Doris Kenyon’ the heroine of tjic Louis Jose*ph Vance stories on the film. They are well supported by a strong cast, among 1 whom will be found some of the quaintest characters ever filmed.
