CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING TE MIBO HOADS At tho regular monthly meeting of the Cambridge Hoad Board, held in Mr ' Vealc’s office on Saturday morning, there were present: Messrs G. M. Watt (chairman), A. N. Dingle, J. T. Entwisle, H. Alan Bell and W. Moore. Te Miro Settlement In connection with the request of a deputation from the Waikato County Council, which waited on the Board at its last meeting, asking that the Te

Miro Settlement be included in the

Board’s area, a letter was received

from Messrs Lewis and Baltimore, supplying information about the rating of the district in question. It was stated that the land in the Te Miro Settlement, being Crown land, was not rateable, with the exception of those portions of vvlrch the freehold had been sold. The letter added that the settlement could be made a special rating area in the event of the Board raising a special loan for work to be done in that district.

In view of these prevailing conditions, the Board considered that it could not accede to the County Council’s request. The secretary was instructed to write to the Waikato County Council, informing them that the Board cOuld not see its way clear at the present time to take over the roads in the Te Miro Settlement, and suggesting that the settlers form a Board of their own. I Heavy Hoad Traffic The secretary reported that three of the members had drawn up an agreeL ment, which had been sent to Mr M. w C. Lawson for signature, stating that ■ the Board would hold him responsible for damage done to their roads by the heavy carting being done at present through the removal of buildings from the Sanatorium. A letter on similar lines had also been sent to the Motor Transfer Co. Notices of Motion In accordance with a notice of motion from last meeting, the notice striking the general rate was duly confirmed. Mr Moore’s notice of motion to the effect that a house be erected at Hautapu for the foreman was dealt with. All the members were in sympathy with the proposal, but considered that the present was not an opportune time to build. Money would be cheaper soon; and, as Mr Bell pointed out, the rent that the Board would have to charge to cover interest and sinking fund on the loan would remain the same, while, before long wages would be reduced, and thus the foreman would be placed in a bad position. .With the consent of the mover and seconder the motion was left over for six months. In accordance with his notice of motion, Mr Entwisle moved that the -charge for gravel from the Board’s pits be amended —the charges to be 2/6 per yard to ratepayers, and 5/ per yard to non-ratepayers. —Carried. Hautapu Culvert It was moved by Mr Entwisle and seconded by Mr Moore, that the Waikato County Council be asked to make a grant of £IOO towards the cost of the Hautapu culvert on Victoria Hoad. Drainage Board Application An application was received from the Fencourt. Drainage Board for £2 10/, being half tho expense of straightening a drain to protect one of the Hoad

Board's bridges. The Boad Board considered that it. was the duty of the Drainage Board to keep their drains in repair. It was stated by Mr Moore that the drain referred to was a Government drain. However, the Board did not consider themselves responsible and thought that the granting of this application might only be a precedent to others, consequently the application was refused. Accounts Accounts amounting to £174 7/11 were passed for payment.
