ELEVEN NEW ZEALANDERS NEW CHAMPIONSHIP STANDARD^ The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association Council has accepted eleven new New Zealand records as a result of the recent championship meet" ing at Wellington. The Records m& Standards Committee recommended that the following New Zealand record* be passed:— 100yds Ladies'.—66 2-ss, Miss Pauline Hoeft (Auckland), at Auckland, on February 21, 1922. 440yds Ladies'.—6m 26 2-ss, Miss Gwitha. Shand (Canterbury), at Wellington, on February 8, 1922. 440yds Men's.—sm 44 4-ss, ,E. V. Cunnold (Auckland), at Wellington, on February 11, 1922. 220yds Intermediate Boys'.—2m 38 2-os, N. S. Batchelor (Canterbury), at Wellington, on February 4, 1922. 100yds Intermediate Girls'.—7l 1-SS, Miss Piri Page (Auckland), at Wellington, on February 8, 1922. 100yds Intermediate Boys'.—62 4-ss, L. Fairgay (Auckland), at WellingtOH, on February 11, 1922.
100yds Junior Boys'.—67 4-ss, V. McTigue (Canterbury), at Wellington, on February 4, 1922. 75yds Intermediate Girls' Breaststroke.—6B 2-ss, O. 75yds Junior Boys' Breaststroke.—<J6f 3-as, V. McTigue (Canterbury), at Wellington, on February 6, 1922. In two cases—those of Pauline Hoeftf and L. Fairgay—on whose behalf records were claimed by the Auckland Centre in respect of performances prior to the New Zealand championships meeting, the committee had no recommendation to make, both swimmers having since improved on the figures sought to be recognised as records.
The committee recommended that the necessary steps be taken to alter the championships standards in accordance with the reductions in the record times, as under: —
220yds, old standard 2m 445, new standard 2m 435; 88yds, 12m 555, 12m 365; 440yds ladies', 7m, 6m 465; 100yds ladies', lm 15s, lm 9 3-ss; 100yds iatboys', 2m 495,'2m 465; 100yds int. Girls', lm 20s, lm 14s; 100yds junr. boys', lm 13s> lm 10s; 100yds junr. girls', lm 30s, lm 235. And to declare standards for new* distances as follows: 50yds junior girls' breaststroke, 475; 75yds junior boys' breaststroke, 695; 75yds intermediate girls' breaststroke, 71 2-ss; 100yds intermediate boys' stroke, lm 245. With respect to the performance of Miss Gwitha Shand, of 6m 26 2-ss, the committee recommended that this s be; passed for a world's record, subject to no better time having been recognised since the last meeting of the Interna* tional Federation. The report was adopted.
