The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co,, Ltd., report as follows: At the Cambridge sale on Monday, April I7th, we held our monthly stock sale, and yarded 1057 cattle of all classes. The beef pens contained 119 fat cow r s and steers, and these were all sold at auction or afterwards at riding prices. 400 weauer calves w'ere penned, and all those in good condition sold really well, the best sorts making to £3 2/, others £1 12/ to £2 8/; small calves, £1 to £1 6/; fresh-conditioned cows sold really w r ell at from £5 12/(5 to £7 10/; store cow’s, £3 10/ to £5 5/; heavy fat cows, £lO to £l2 2/; lighter weight steers, £lO 8/ to £ll 17/; fresh-condi-tioned steers, £8 12/; heavy bulls, £7 7/ to £.ll 5/; yearling to 18-months steers, £4 10/ to £5 12/(5; springing heifers, £8 to £9 10/. A good entry of sheep, woolly lambs, 10/10 to 15/; shorn lambs to 14/9; fat sheeps, £1 0/9; culled empty ewes, 10/. Pigs were penned in usual numbers, and sold at fair prices. Eat pigs to £2

At Westfield on Wednesday fat stock was yarded in full quantities, and most of the steers were of good quality. Competition was scarcely as keen as the previous week, although quotations are the shine. Best oxen sold to £2 4/ per lOOlbs; others. £2 to £2 3/ per 100 lbs, 1 cows and heifers, £l 15/ to £2 2/; steers sold at from £lO 10/ to £18; cows, £5 10/ to £l3 17/0. Home of the averages were: 22steers from Messrs. R. W. Gollau, Eanmure, £l6 15/; 8 steers from W. Gray, Cambridge, £l6 2/; 8 steers, H. E_ Reed, Waeranga, £l6 12/; 24 steers from Jas. Given, Greenhills, Waiuku, £ls 17/. Calves were penned in large numbers, and hold under keen competition at improved rates. Runners sold at from £5 5/ to £9 12/6; heavy suckers, £3 15/ to £4 12/0; medium, £2 10/ to £3 12/6; light do., £1 10/ to £2 7/6; small and fresh-dropped, 8/ to £1 8/. Sheep were penned in full numbers, and sold at improved rates. Best wethers sold at from £1 7/ to £1 10/3; others, £1 2/6 to £1 6/6; ewes, best, £1 6/6 to £1 10/; others, £1 2/ to £1 5/9; hoggetts, £1 1/ to £1 6/. liambs in full supply, and sold well, at from £1 to £1 6/.
Pigs were yarded in scarcely average numbers, and sold at improved rates. Choppers sold at from £4 .15/ to £5 14/; heavy baconers, £3 7/ to £4 35/: medium do., £2 10/ to £6 5/; light porkers, £1 15/ to £2 2/; weaners, 14/ to 37/.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having held their usual weekly fat stock sale at Westfield on Wednesday, 19th April, 1916, as under:— Beef—Average yarding. The demand was not so good as usual, and prices were a shade lower all round. Extra choice pens prime ox sold at up to 42/ per lOOlbs. Ordinary quality ox beef, 37/ to 40/; cow and heifer made from 35/ to 39/ per lOOlbs. Mutton.—Average yarding, and prices were a shade lower than last week. Extra heavy prime wethers made up to 32/; ordinary heavy prime wethers, 25/ to 28/; (jxtra heavy ewes made up to 29/6; average, 22/ to 26/. Lamb.—Moderate yarding; heavy woolly made up to 18/9; prime shorn made up to 18/6; medium weight, 14/6 to 15/; light and unfinished, 11/6 to 15/9.
