CRICKET SOCIAL AT HAMILTON
To celebrate the victory of their
"B" team in the Waikato Cricket championship last season, the Hamilton United Cricket Club held an enjoyable smoke social in the Kia Ura tea-rooms last evening.
The following toasts were honoured:— The King, the Waikato Cricket Association, the Hamilton United Cricket Club, the "B" Team, the Losing Teams, the Wednesday Teams, the Veterans, the Ladies, Kindred Sports, and the Press. The health of the president and chairman, Mr P. E. Stevens, was drunk most enthusiastically. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Dr Douglas, Mr 11. Gillies, and Mr J. E. Hammond.
The llowden Cup, last year held by the Frankton Club, was handed to Mr J. Pomeroy, captain of the winning team, by Mr 11. Dymock. The championship caps unfortunately bat not come to hand, and will be presented on a future occasion.
During the evening a bat for highest batting average among the Wednesday players was presented to Mr C. Lall'erty, whose average was 22 runs.
The meeting carried a hearty vote of thanks to the Hamilton Domain Board for their ell'orts towards providing grounds and wickets and other facilities for the cricketers of Hamilton.
Musical and elocutionary items were most acceptably rendered by Messrs Holloway, Pomeroy, Parlane, Fort, Marriot and Speight; while Mr McMalh contributed a most humorous speech.
