VALEDICTORY AT CAMBRIDGE

Last evening the members of the Cambridge Club met to say farewell to their President, Mr W. R. C. Walker, who is leaving Cambridge for Newmarket, where he has been appointed headmaster of the large school there. There was a good attendance, Mr A. H. Kicoll, vicepresident being in the chair. A handsome illuminated address, was presented to Mr Walker, on behalf of the members by Mr J. A. Young, M.l'. It read as follows:—"To W. R, C. Walker, Esq., president of the Cambridge Club. On the eve of your departure from Cambridge to take up your residence in Auckland the members of the Cambridge Club desire to place on record their appreciation of ttu- seiviee you have rendered to the club as a committeeman since its formation, and as this year's president. You are held in the highest esteem by the whole of the members of the club, and your removal from the district will be regretted by one and all. That your future may be attended with the best of health, happiness and prosperity is the earnst wish of your friends in the club. Signed on behalf of the members, J. Lundoii, C. C. Buck land, S. Lewis, Past Presidents A. 11. Nicoll, Vice-President, J. P. Asher, Hon. Secretary."

In making the presentation Mr Young in eulogistic terms to the many good qualities possessed by Mr Walker, and to the good wvrk he had done during his term in Cambridge, as did also several others during the course of the evening.

The recipient duly acknowledged the BOUvenir, which he said he should ever treasure as a memento of the pleasant time he had ppent in Cambridge, and of the friends he was leaving behind. During the evening songs and recitations were contributed by Messrs Harrison, Lundon, Puckland, Wells, 11. Lewis and C. Roberts, and a most enjoyable time was spent.
