UNDER-VALUING MOTOR CARS. London, January 13. Mr Shorland, of the Clement Talbot Company, giving evidence in connection with the alleged conspiracy to dofraud the Commonwealth Customs authorities by means of false invoices, admitted that clerical errors occurred in fifteen invoices be tween September and December, 1909, in which the net price of tyres was treated as the gress price. Mr Bodkin, for the defendant, objected to the admission of th<±se invoices. Counsel for the prosecution contended that defendants must have known that the invoices were wrong. The prosecution could not accept the statement that the mistakes were clerical.
The magistrate upheld Mr Bod kin's objection. The case has been further ad journed.

GENERAL STRIKE ORDERED. Received 10.55 a.m., 14th. Capetown, January 13. At midnight martial law was proclaimed. The Trades Federation has ordered a general strike tlnoughout South Africa. Received 2.2fi p.m., Nth. Johannesburg, January 13. A general strike was declared by the Trades Federation late tonight, as the result of mineis' ballots and ballots of allied trades, showing a large majority in favour of it. On a few ni'ties, however, th; majority voted against a strike, and troops are being encamped in their vicinity to afford them adequate protection in the event of their wishing to continue work, despite the general strike order.
