GORDONTON

A meeting of Gordonton milk suppliers met Messrs Spragg ami I’acey, dl' the New Zealand Dairy Association, in the hall on Friday. Mr I’aeev briefly outlined the policy Ol the company during the past season, touching on all the points of interest to the dairy farmers, and also gave a resume of what the company intended doing as regards casein manufacture for the coming season, stating that in accordance with the wishes of a number of shareholders, a manufacturing plant, will he erected to test the market, and prove if the project is a paying one. It is the intention of the company to manufacture from 200 to 200 tons of casein next year. Mr I’acey also dealt with the marketing of New Zealand butter, pointing out the serious increase ol second grade butter placed on the market. Owing to the enormous increase in the production of margarine, and the low cost at which it can he retailed, second grade butler is in comparatively small demand. Though the factories were doing their utmost to turn out a first grade butter, for which there is always a good demand, it behoved the dairy farmers to do their share in supplying nothing but the best and cleanest of milk or cream as the case might be. as good quality butter cannot be produced from inferior cream. After the address a number of questions were put to the speaker and answered satisfactorily. A vote of thanks to the chairman and Mr I’accy concluded the meeting.

The local creamery has suspended

operations for the season several weeks earlier than usual, owing, no doubt, to the shortage of feed caused by the unfavourable autumn. The Mutual Improvement Society held a most successful newspaper evening on Tuesday last, for June 10th the committee have arranged a social evening, to which all are cordially invited.
