South Otago centre: J. Edwards, W. Sheddan, J. W. Nicholson. There are twelve ladies in the party. At 9.30, at the Hamilton green, His Worship the Mayor, Mr A. E. Manning, formally welcomed the team to the town. In doing so he expressed regret that the visitors’ stay in the town was so brief as they would have liked to have shown them a little more of the beauties of Hamilton, of which residents were justly proud. These visits did a lot of good by tending to good fellowship, as bowlers were always the best men in a community, and there was no room on a bowling green for a grouch. He concluded by expressing the hope that they would have a pleasant day. He knew they were playing for pure love of the game, and did not care much who won. He could assure them they would find the Waikato bowlers to be good men on the green. (Applause). Mr Wheeler, president of the Hamilton green, also briefly welcomed the visitors. They had anticipated that there would be twelve rinks, and so bad arranged for two greens;-but as only eight rinks would be engaged, they had decided to play on the one green, as being the more sociable. Two cars had been provided to take he lady members of the party round the town, and he hoped all would thoroughly enjoy themselves. Morning tea would be provided at 11 a.m. Mr Barnett, before recalling upon Mr Waymouth to reply, asked the local men to accept a photograph of the team as a souvenir of the trip. It was handed to Mr Wheeler amidst applause. Mr Waymouth, in a few well chosen words, referred to the happy feeling of camaraderie which the game of bowls engendered. He had been on tour throughout Australia, and he thoroughly endorsed a remark that had been made before they set out that they “were in for something which even a millionaire could not purchase ” and he could endorse this from his own experience, gibe visitors then sang “As, we go howling on,” after which reciprocal cheers were given, rnd the serious business of the day was proceeded with. The following are the respective rinks:— Southern. Waikato. Bentley v. Wilson (Hamilton) Maynard „ Davidson (Morrinsville) Payne „ McFarlane (Cambridge) Sanders „ Mitchell (Whitiora) McCurdy „ Varney (Hamilton) Cheewin „ B r ackenrigg (Te AwaNicholson „ Condon ( Whitiora) Smith „ Ewen (Frankton)
