NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board who field at the office, Ohote, yesterday. Present —E. C. Shepherd. chairman, J. Duck, H. U. Poynter, W. Clow, and R. H. Nicholson. Mr W. Laxon waited on the board and requested that 60 chains of formation be made on the old Whatawhata road near his farm; also some improvements to the hill cutting.— Granted. Mr J. Lawry was granted permission to fence in and occupy an unused road until required for public use. The Tuhikaramea Road Board wrote agreeing to bear half the cost of metalling the Koramatua fingerpost hill, and suggested that the work bo supervised by the Newcastle Board. —Agreed to. Mr R. H. Washer asked for autho rity to remove a fence erected across the main road near his land. In the same connection Mr Jos. Mathers wrote that the fence had not been erected by him. —lt was decided to give the necessary authority, the material not to be removed from the ground. A Gazette notice of an Order-in-Council consenting to the closing of a road through Mr R. H. Nicholson’s land was received. As the Waipa County Council had not consented to the closing, it was decided to obtain this, when the land contained in the closed road will be disposed of. The Public Works Department notified a grant of £IOO for metalling the Pukete road, also £IOO as £ for £ subsidy towards the cost of Blackett’s bridge. The chairman stated having given the board’s consent to undertake the work in question, ; and his action was confirmed. The clerk was directed to ascertain the position of the board in respect to the renewal of Inst year’s grant of £IOO for metalling the Koromatua road. The list of works to be undertaken in various parts of the district was gone into, a number of useful works being authorised, for which tenders will be called, to be in by next meeting. The dent submitted a petition from Horotiu settlers in respect to establishing a special rating area for constructing a new road. The petition being in order, it was decided to forward it to the Advances Department for approval; a resolution being passed making a special rate of one-third of a penny in the £ to cover interest and sinking fund. It was decided to ask the Waipa County Council to take over the Te Kowhui and Te Rapa road as a county road. The following accounts were passed for payment--J. Marshall, £4 4s; J. Goodall, I6s.
