A DANGEROUS PRACTICE.

To the Editor. Sir, —I wish to call attention to the indiscriminate use of tho pea rifle on a public road. When going into Hamilton via Newstead yesterday morning 1 heard a shot when passing tho finger-post near the bridge and drinking trough; another sliot was fired, which whistled past and appeared to strike within a few feet of me. Riy horse plunged. I called out for them to stop but got no answer. On inspection I found that the end of the bridge was used as a marked target, there being several bullet holes around the target. If this sort of thing is not stopped there may he a serious accident; so 1 feci it my duty to call the attention of tho authorities to the matter. I am, etc., 0. F. CLOTHIEK. Tau whare.
