Raglan.
At the annual meeting of shareholders of the Raglan Co-operative Dairy Company held at Kauroa last week the directors reported a heavy falling off in the quantity of butterfat received during the season, caused by the drought and grass fires, which necessitated the closing of the factory three months before the usual time, consequently the cost of manufacture was increased by over one penny per lb. Fortunately, the high price obtained for the manufactured article was a compensating factor. After Writing off £53 12s 2d for depreciation and it 5 odd off preliminary account, a credit balance of £B6 3s 6d was left which the directors proposed utilising for the payment of a bonus of f d per lb of butterfat. The sinking fund had been increased by £6O 12s 9d, bringing it up to a present total of £224 12s 9d. In accordance .with the articles of association all the directors retired, and the following were elected'—Messrs W. J.' Henry, J. Belcher, E. E. McDonald J. Dent and A. G. Husband. At a meeting of the directors of the Raglan Town Hall, held last week, Mr J. Darrow was elected chairman, Mr Danders declining to take office for another year. The Raglan Town Board is contemplating the raising of a loan to carry out desirable improvements. A football match between Raglan and Waingaro was played at Raglan last Saturday and resulted in a draw, the scores being 6—6. Mr O'Sullivan acted as referee. After a few days of fairish weather —a dry patch in one of the wettest Julys on record —we are again in the midst of rain, rain incessant and heavy, cold and miserable. Farmers are finding it very difficult to keep up the condition of their live stock this season, and it is probable that the man who has good shelter and poor feed is at least as well off as he who has the best of feed and no cover in the shape of natural bush, scrub er plantations for his animals. —Own Correspondent.
