Employers' Association.
At the meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last night, the president, Mr J. W. Ellis, said the executive had considered the question of the desirability of establishing a branch of the Employers' Association for Waikato and the Goldfields. While in Wellington he had seen Mr Pryor, the organising secretary, on the subject, but unfortunately that gentleman would not be able to visit the district until about September. He had suggessted that unless it was possible to get from 40 to 50 members it would not be advisatble to start a branch; but Mr Ellis did not think there would be any difficulty in securing the number, as it was intended to include the whole of the Waikato and the Goldfields. Personally he was desirous to go on with the matter, and he thought the time had come when employers should be organised—not in an antagonistic spirit, but to protect their own interests.
Mr Gwynne proposed that it be a recommendation to the incoming executive to take steps to form a branch of the Employers' Association, and that Mr Pryor be invited to visit the district with that object. The motion was seconded by Mr Pocock and carried unanimously.
