Leap Year Ball at Te Mata.

Perhaps one of the most enjoyable evenings held for some time was that of the Ladies' Leap year Ball, which took place in the Te Mata Public Hall on Friday evening last. The weather was not at all favourable; but notwithstanding this about thirty couples graced the floor, and dancing was indulged in till daylight. A sit down supper was partaken of at midnight, before which the customary order of things was reversed, and the ladies undertook the duty of engaging their partners. No doubt the novelty made the gentlemen rather shy, but they felt more at ease after midnight, when they again took up the usual role. For the ladies Misses Kendall and Garrett made energetic M.'sC, and Miss McCracken, in a most efficient manner, carried out the secretarial duties.-- Own Correspondent.
