Matamata Farmers’ Union.
The monthly meeting of the Matamata Farmers’ Union was held on Saturday, the 20th inst., Mr Bowler, chairman, presiding. Messrs Smith, Duxficld, and Banks handed in their report regarding discounts by local tradespeople. Discounts on bills sent out on the 20th and paid between the 20th and the end of the month will be as follows; Messrs Abbot, grocer, 5 per cent.; Smythe, grocer, 5 per cent.; Long, ironmonger, 5 per cent,; Tcttley, butcher, 21 percent.; James, baker, 2 h per cent.; Price, blacksmith, 21 per cent.; McConnell, saddler, 3J per cent,; Morgan, produce and groceries, 3J per cent.; Manson, draper, 5 per cent. Correspondence relating to the price of bacon pigs was read and considered very satisfactory. The matter was left entirely in the hands of Mr Banks, who proceeds to Hamilton on Monday to interview Messrs Bell and Barugh on the subject. On the motion of Mr Banks, Messrs Simpson, Bowler, McCaw, and Gunn were appointed a committee to make the bargain for manures required for rape and turnip sowing in the spring.
