Raglan.

A quiet wedding took place last week at Waitomotomo, nearTe Mata, when Miss Martha Billington was united to Mr Oscar Vanhoutte, the Rev. Mr Carr being tqc officiating clergyman. A nine- months-old daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Belcher, who had been suffering for about a fortnight with bronchitis, had a convulsive attack and died rather suddenly on Thursday morning.

Mr Jackson, who has observed in some states of the weather a sunken rock about two miles from the mainland at Ruapuke, lias been in communication for some time with the Marine Department. From information received it seems that a search will bo made for the rock by the Government steamer _when she makes her next northerly trip, probably towards the end of August, and that Mr Jackson will be advised of the time so that he may give the bearings from his house. The Native Land Board is still sitting here, although a good many of the natives who first arrived have since left. To the European view the work is proceeding slowly, but the chief Maoris concerned claim that as regards expedition the hoard’s methods are a long way ahead of the Land Courts. So far, things seem to have gone very smoothly, and we hear of comparatively few objections to decisions as regards the hoard’s defining of relative interests. The Mocrangi-Matakowai block committee, which has been authorised to issue timber-cutting rights over the block, has appointed Anaru Ekctone, of Ngaruawahia, as sole agent for the disposal of payable timber, with Ngawhare Hone Raarna, of Waitctuna as his practical assistant. It is reported on good authority that there is 30,000,000 ft of timber growing within workable distance of the Waitctuna and Kaniwhaniwha streams. A rough estimate of the timber on the Aotea side easily available by the Maari and Makomako streams is 20,000,000 ft. Tenders for the timber rights on the Moerangi Block will be advertised for shortly.
