AN EMPLOYERS* FEDERATION. Sydney, May 15. A LARGELY-ATTENDED meeting of employers formed a federation of employers with th-3 object of protecting their interests from undue aggression by the State or Commonwealth Government, aud generally to watch over their interests. VICTORIAN LOAN. Melbourne, Ma> 15. Mr J. Gillespie, acting on behalf of a leading English financial firm, has offered to take up tha whole of the Victorian conversion loan of £.275,000, falling due in a few weeks. The news has caused great relief in financial circles. THE PLAGUE RATS. Sydney, May 15. The Health Department state that the plagued rats indicate a re-impor-tation and not a recrudescence of the disease. There is uo need for alarm. NORFOLK ISLAND. Sydney, May 15. The Premier received a cable from Mr Houston, in Norfolk Island, stating that apparently satisfactory progress is being made, evidently referring to his mission. A SUSPICIOUS DEATH. Sydney, May 15. A young woman has died after eating curry at Gundagai, and two others are in a serious condition. An arrest has been made. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN. Adelaide, May 15. Over £400,000 has been subscribed for the local quarter of a million loan.
