THE AUBURN MURDfejR. Sydney, May 12. GIIAND and Jones are again being tried for the murder of Constable Long at Auburn. Woolford, the principal witness, again failing to remember anything, the Government medical officer deposed that he was malingering. The Judge severely cautioned Woolford, who appealed for a promise of protection. When this was given, and after consulting his solicitor, witness found his memory, and, under pressure from the Judge, gave evidence similar to that given at the first trial. NORFOLK ISLAND. Sydney, May 11, H.M.S. Phoebe has ariived at Norfolk Island with Mr Houston (the Deputy-Administrator) on board. He met with a good reception. He will begin his inquiry into the affairs of the island to-day. THE BALMORAL. Sydney'. May 11. An examination in Sydney of the s.s. Balmoral has showed that the damage is more serious than was at first thought. It will be necessary to discharge a portion of tho cargo to allow of a proper survey. OBITUARY. Sydney, May 11. The death is announced in Sydney of Monsignor Rigney, aged S 9, the oldest priest in Australia.
