HAMILTON LIBRARY.
A meeting of the Hamilton Library Committee was held last night to receive reports, etc., from the different subcommittees appointed in connection with tlie preparation of ru’es for the conduct of tlie Library, the proposed ball and lectures. The following members were present His Worship the Mayor (Mr Dej), in the chair, Dr. Kenny, Messrs K. Parr, M. G. Farrcr, W. C. Castleton, It. Bradley, R. F. Sarnies, J. Hume, P. E. Stevens, I. Coates, G. Edgccninbe and A. Swatbrick. The proposed rules were submitted by Mr Swarbrick, and'alter a shot t discussion were adopted without amendment. Mr Stevens reported on behalf of the ball committee that they suggested that the price of tickets should be os each. This was agreed to.—ln the matter of music, Mr Stevens informed the committee that they had not, so far, been able to make any arrangements with the local players, but they hoped to be able to do to. As regards lectures, Mr Bradley informed the meeting that the Rev. Mr Mather had fixed the date for his lecture for Tuesday, April 6th, and that the Rev. Mr Mitchell would deliver a lecture on “ The L.fe of Burns,” but the date bad not yet been fixed. Mr Swarbrick submitted a draft of a circular, which he proposed should be sent to residents in and around Hamilton, setting out the objects the committee had in view, and soliciting assistance towards the Building Fund.— This was approved, and Messrs Stevens, Farrer, Coates and Swarbrick were appointed a committee to obtain subscriptions towards tlie Building Fund. On the recommendation of Mr Swurbrick, the secretary was authorised to obtain a date stamp, ledger and receipt book for tlie library, and also to get tickets printed for the Rev. J. J. Mather’s forthcoming lecture. Messrs Swarbrick and the secretary were appointed a committee to arrange for shelving and cataloguing the new books, in order that they may lie at once placed at the disposal of subscribers.— [ll connection with this department Mr Stevens reported that Miss Cussen had very kindly offered to type write lists of the new books and that Mr Howden had placed his typewriting machine at tiiis lady’s disposal, Mr Sandes a'so agreeing to supply suitable paper for the purpose,—A vote <if thanks was passed to Miss Cussen and Messrs tjowden and Sarnies for their respective services. Mr Bradl -y apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr Young, and the meeting terminated with tlie usual vote of thanks to the chair.
