CUPPER DUE IN AUCKLAND TO-MORROW. INAUGURATION OF SERVICE. CARRIAGE OF PASSENGERS & MAILS. (Received Thursday, 8.25 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, December 22. . Pan-American Airways announced that the Samoan Clipper was taking off for Auckland at dawn on Thursday, from Pearl Harbour (Honolulu), via Kingman Reef and Pago Pago and should arrive on Christmas Day. Captain Musick will be in command. A Department of Commerce representative will be aboard the Clipper to inaugurate a commercial service. The Clipper may leave Auckland on December 29. The carrying of mail and an ■erpress passenger service will be started as soon as schedules and conditions can be determined. FORTNIGHTLY SERVICE. CENTAURUS DUE ON MONDAY. AUCKLAND, December 23. The long range Siktirsky clipper of Pan-American Airways is scheduled to arrive at Auckland on Sunday afternoon to inaugurate a fortnightly mail and freight service between Auckland and San Francisco, commencing with a return journey from Auckland on Wednesday. The ’machine is due to leave Honolulu at four o’clock to-morrow morning, New Zealand time, on her final inspection of the route. Less than 24 hours after her arrival, the Imperial Empire, flying boat,Centaurus, la expected to reach at the conclusion of hejr flight from England and her first survey trip across the Tasman. The American flying boat is expected (o land on Waitemata Harbour at about five o’clock on Sunday afternoon. The Centaurus is to take off from Sydney at six o’clock on Monday morning, New Zealand time, and to reach. Auckland at 3.30 o ’clock in the afternoon. The two giant flying boats will be moored side by side off the Pan-American base in Mechanics Bay.—(PA.)
