LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
ADDRESS BY PROVINCIAL PRESIDENT. There was a large attendance at the meeting of the League of Mothers, held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The president (Mrs L. B. Maunsell) occupied the chair. Several new members were enrolled. The League Choir gave several very excellent numbers and Miss O. Fish delighted the audience with two charming songs. The speaker of the day was Mrs H. W. Kersley, the Provincial President of the League of Mothers. Mrs Kersley, who took as her subject “The Aims and Objects of the League,” prefaced her address with words of commendation for the League Choir. Most of the branches now possess a choir and these have proved a great help and inspiration. Mrs. Kersley also said that headquarters regarded Masterton as a very flourishing branch, and paid a tribute to the work of the president (Mrs. Maunsell) and that of the executive. In the course of her address, Mrs Kersley said high ideals were necessary to true and pure home life. The real test of a woman’s life was in her home. The vital problem of youth was not so much what society might do towards solving the difficulty, but rather what mothers might learn of the realities of child training and put into practice in the home. The future of the world lay, to a large extent, with the mothers. Quoting the late King George V., Mrs Kersley said the foundation of the nation's glory was laid in the home. “Keep the family life pure and the National life remains unshaken.”
On concluding Mrs Kersley was very heartily thanked. The tea hostesses were Mesdames E. J. Burke, D. and L. T. Blatchford, G. L. Thomas, J. Renner and W. Armstrong.
