JAN KIEpURA IN “GIVE US THIS NIGHT.” Jan Kiepura, who entranced audiences of the world in “Tell Me Tonight,” and Gladys Swarthout, who made her screen debut in “Rose of the Rancho,” are teamed in Paramount’s “Give Us This Night,” a musical romance which opens at the Cosy Theatre to-morrow, •when it will be screened at 2.15 p.m. and 7.45 p.m. “Give Us This Night” introduces a new type of musical production to the screen—a combination of popular and semiclassical music written by two outstanding figures in their respective fields. The music is by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, with lyrics by Oscar Kammerstein IT. Included in the score is an original opera by Korngold. Miss Swarthout plays the role of a famous opera soprano who aids a young Italian fisherman—a role played by Kiepura—to scale the heights of operatic fame. She first discovers him in his native village, and with the assistance of a noted composer, gives him his chance to study and succeed. Running through the story is the three-cornered romance involving the star, the fisherman and the composer. Phillip Merivale, has the role of the composer. Comedy relief is furnished by chubby Benny Baker. Reserves at Perry’s, ’phone 2496.
