SUSTENANCE FRAUDS.

MAN FINED AT IVANGANCI. WANGANUI, October 5. Leonard Isitt Whiteside, aged CO, admitted to-day making three false declarations of his earnings for the purpose of obtaining sustenance. In one instance he earned £5 14s lid privately and received £1 12s sustenance. The Magistrate, Mr. J. H. Salmon said he had discovered that there was a good deal of abuse of sustenance. He considered the only proper way to deal with offenders was to make it unprofitable to make false declarations. On each charge the defendant was fined £2 and costs 10s.—(P.A.)
