The Commonwealth Government has taken steps to perpetuate the memory of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. It is proposed to erect in a suitable situation at the Mascot Aerodrome a statue of this great airman in a characteristic attitude, and also to erect there a new administrative building at a cost of £40,000 as a memorial. In addition, the Mascot Aerodrome in future will be known as “the Kingsford Smith Aerodrome, Mascot.” Cabinet decided that other airmen associated w r ith pioneering in aviation should be honoured by naming after them other important air centres. Thus the Darwin Aerodrome in future will be known as ‘ ‘ the Ross Smith Aerodrome, Darwin.”
