A GREAT AIRMAN.

MEMORIAL TO KINGSFORD SMITH. NEW NAME FOR MASCOT AERODROME. HONOURS FOR OTHER PIONEERS. (Received Thursday, 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 13. The Commonwealth Government has taken steps to perpetuate the memory of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. It is proposed to erect in a suitable situation at the Mascot Aerodrome a statue of this great airman in a characteristic attitude, and also to erect there a new administrative building at a cost of £40,000 as a memorial. In addition, the Mascot Aerodrome in future will be known as “the Kingsford Smith Aerodrome, Mascot.” Cabinet decided that other airmen associated w r ith pioneering in aviation should be honoured by naming after them other important air centres. Thus the Darwin Aerodrome in future will be known as ‘ ‘ the Ross Smith Aerodrome, Darwin.”
