ARSENAL STOPPAGE.
BRITAIN’S FIRST STAY-IN STRIKE. AGREEMENT REACHED IN THREE hours. (Received This Day, 1.7 a . m .) LONDON, July 3. Britain’s first stay-in strike lasted for three hours. When 260 workers at Woolwich Arsenal ceased work at midday, the doors of one of the largest shops, producing bullets and shells were locked, Stewards representing the men conferred with the department superintendent and it was agreed that grievances should receive a thorough investigation, whereupon work was resumed. The chief point in dispute related to the system fixing payment for piecework. The strikers’ representatives state there is no bitterness. The affair is settled and it is certain there Will be no trouble for a long time.
