FATAL INJURIES.
RETIRED BLACKSMITH FOUND IN STREET. BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN HIT BY CAB. WANGANUI, July 1. i Henry Hooker, aged 78, a retired blacksmith, was found late last night at the corner of Guyton Street with a fractured skull and both ankles broken. It is presumed that he was knocked down by a motor-car while on his way home from a billiard saloon 1 where he assisted his son, who is the proprietor. Without regaining consciousness, Mr Hooker died in hospital this • evening. At One stage the theory was that he had been the victim of an assanlt, but subsequent medical investigation suggests that he was knocked down and run over by a motor vehicle of eome kind.—(P.A.)
