POWER SUPPLY.
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. MR. A. C. PEARCE RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN INCREASE IN HONORARIUM. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa P’ower Board was held yesterday. There were present Messrs A. Campbell Pearce, R. J. King, H. P. Hugo, W. Howard Booth, C. R. Holmes, W. Benton, W. A. Tate and S. Dalgleish, the Secretary-Manager, Mr. G. Brown and the engineer, Mr. H. B. Keenan. An apology for absence was received from Mr. J. W. A. Falloon. The chairman’s honorarium for the ensuing twelve months was fixed at £l5O, an increase of £25 over last year. An amendment by Mr. Dalgleish that the honorarium be the same as last year found no support.
Mr. Pearce was re-elected chairman unopposed. Messrs H. P. Hugo, W. Howard Booth and R. J. King and the chairman ex officio were reappointed as a Finance Committee.
The Secretary-Manager, in his annual report, said the trading conditions during the year showed a noticeable improvement compared with the four previous years. The net profit of £2llOO, earned after paying all charges such as sinking fund, depreciation and appropriations was very satisfactory. The net revenue from all classes of load showed an increase compared both with the previous year and with the estimate. The increases in the sales of commercial light and heat and for cooking were particularly noticeable. The revenue from bulk supply showed a satisfactory increase compared with 19'34-35. The results in the trading department showed a very decided improvement. The cost of power, interest, sinking fund depreciation and profit absorbed 74.11 per cent, of the total revenue. MONTHLY MEETING. At the conclusion of the annual meeting the ordinary monthly meeting was held. On the recommendation of the- finance committee it was agreed that as it was not possible to obtain a permit to dispose of a vacuum cleaner offered to the Wairarapa P. and A. Society by means of an art union that a sum of £l2 12s be donated to the society, to be divided equally between the three candidates. The tender of the British General Electric Co., Ltd., for the supply of vapour type lamps for Masterton street lighting was accepted.
It was decided that the bala'nce of the 15 per cent, cut in salaries and wages be restored, in accordance with a schedule submitted to board members. This involved an increased cost of £3lO per year, and other increases in salary and the cost of extra labour on maintenance accounted for £225.
The meeting agreed that the following appropriations of the balance in the net revenue account be made: To general reserve (profit trading account), £650; for capital expenditure, £3000; "rebate on guarantees, £300; leaving a balance to be carried forward of £658. It was also decided to make an appropriation of £1450 for capital expenditure from the current year’s revenue. Notice was given that at the next nfeeting of the board a resolution in the form of a special order would be moved authorising the raising of the Awhea special loan of £2500 at 3| per cent, for 20 years. It was decided to proceed with the work forthwith.
It was decided to adhere to the regulations relating to the moving of poles for road imp-rovement purposes.
