MOTOR LICENCES.
FIGURES AND A SYMBOL
SYSTEM EXPLAINED.
Black numerals and border line on a ground of golden yellow constitute the 1 ‘colour-scheme' 9 for the registration plates which must appear on all motorvehicles on June 1, but not before that date. Separating the thousands from the hundreds in the figures will be seen a little symbol—an inverted equilateral triangle—a small feature not generally noticed by a motorist but one of significance in the scheme of
checking current licences. Where there are three or fewer figures, the symbol will appear before the number. During the current year the symbol is K comma; it is changed every year. Although many wise motorists will complete relicensing some time before the final day and thus avoid the necessity of queueing up to a counter With the last-minute applicants, the P’ost Office Motor Registration Branch is preparing for heavy work towards the end of May, and at Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin as well as at other centres and some secondary towns, is again endeavouring to ease the position by conducting the relicensing in temporary premises where it is considered that the facilities in the post office building are not .adequate for handling the big volume of work involved, having in mind that the Post Office has many other tasks such as unemployment levy collection and the monthly pensions payments. The distribution list for the 1936-37 motor registration plates involves allocation of the following groups of numbers in Palmerston North, 125,201 to 134,700 and in Wellington, 134,701 to 152,000.
