ROTORUA MUD.

SHIPMENT TO ENGLAND. CURATIVE POSSIBILITIES. WELLINGTON, May 18. A ton of Rotorua mud is to be shipped to England and distributed among well-known spas as the result of a request by the High Commissioner to the Minister in charge of the Tourist and Publicity departments, the Hon. F. Langstone, following on increased interest in British medical circles in the use of mineral impregnated muds in the treatment of certain diseases. “It is understood that considerable interest in the possibilities of Rotorua mud has been aroused through publicity given to curative treatments available at the spa,’’ said Mr. Langstone, in an interview to-day. “Most of the mud used in Britain comes from Continental sources and is very expensive to purchase and transport to the spas. It has now been arranged to send a sample shipment of a ton, which will be distributed to such well-known spas as Harrogate, Droitwieh and Bath. Advantage will be taken of the presence at Home of Dr. R. G. Thompson, New Zealand representative on the British Spas Federation to oversee the tests. Both Dr. Thompson, who is a graduate of Otago University and Dr. Dunean, Government baineologist at Rotorua, are strongly of opinion that Rotorua mud will be found most beneficial and as supplies are practically inexhaustible, it is possible that a considerable export trade of a lucrative nature may be established.—(P.A.)
