NEW ZEALAND MEAT.

RETAIL PRICES IN LONDON. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has been advised by its London manager, that the following retail prices were being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in London during January, 1936 (these prices represent a fair average of the prices quoted by the better class shops in London for the best quality of New Zealand lamb and mutton}: — New Zealand lamb: Legs, 12d; shoulders, lid; loins, lid; necks, 6d; breasts, 3d; forequarters, 8d; hindquarters, lid. New Zealand mutton (wethers): Legs, 9d; shoulders, 8d; loins, 8d; necks, 3d; breasts, 2d. LAMB MARKET. In regard to prices for New Zealand lamb delivered to Smithfield Market, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board supplies the following table, giving equivalent New Zealand parities after deducting all costs, including selling commission, interest and one month’s storage in London. The costing is calculated from the point of view of a farmer shipping on his own account. It is based on to-day’s estimated skin values and includes exchange at current rates. The basis of calculation is a prime woolly lamb weighing say, 341bs. delivered at Freezing Works:— If price delivered N.Z. “overall” to Smithfield is parity delivered at works (approx.)

Note. —In the above estimate the cost of killing, freezing and placing on board steamer is based on a charge of •528 d per lb.
