BOWLING.
MASTEBTON PARK CLUB GAMES. BOOTH CUP AND OTHER MATCHES. A Booth Cup match was played at the Park on Saturday between the Masterton Park and Martinborough Bowling Clubs. Although the weather was threatening the rain kept off long enough to allow this match to be completed, the home club proving victorious by two wins to one. Details are as follows: (Park players mentioned first in every instance) :—-Dixon, Jenkins, Bell, Shearer (s) beat Chapman, George, Jolly, Lamb (s), 23/13; Butler, Spackman, Finlayson, Ewington (s) beat Flannery, Robson, McNally, Wright (s) v 2B/ll; Drummond, Fenton, Thompson, Kilgour (s) lost to Stumbles, Yates, Pike, Boyd (s), 10/23. Contests in the various Club competitions played recently resulted as follows:—
Champion Pairs: Jenkins and Braggins (s) beat Butler and Spackman (s); Leith and Dixon (s) beat Simpson and Stubbings (s). Champion Singles: Jenkins beat Spackman; Finlayson beat Shearer; Simpson beat Braggins; Finlayson beat Spackman; Kilgour beat Weller. Lett Cup (Handicap Singles): Butler beat Volheim; Drummond beat Forsyth; Reader beat Fenton; Leith beat Williams; Wilder beat Polson; Thompson beat Spackman; Osborne beat Moor.
Spackman Cup (Colts’ Singles): Roff beat Forsyth; Harding beat Moor; Milne beat Antice; Burke beat Harding; Osborne beat Forsyth; Hal’ding beat Allen.
An interesting game was played for the Keatly Medals when after a close contest the challengers, Wickens and Dixon (s) won the trophies from the holders, Osborne and Fenton (s) by 23/18.
INTER-HOUSE MATCH. BOROUGH v. ENGINEERS. The first of the annual inter-house contests for the season between the Borough Council and the Engineers and Blacksmiths took place on Friday afternoon last. The competition is not confined to the members of any particular club, although played on the Park green, and the trophy is never won by the victors but is held impartially by both teams. Many spectators witnessed a close keen game and at the finish heartily congratulated the Borough team, Braggins, Carr, Watson, Buckley (s), who defeated the Engineers, Shearer, J. > Ewington, H. Ewington, Vincent (s), 19/14. The return match will be played probably next Friday evening. FEATHERSTON BEAT MASTERTON In a fourth round match for the Booth Cup played on Saturday teams representing the Featherston Bowling Club defeated the Masterton Club by 3 games to 1.
