The quantity-wHoeally grown wheat available for poultry feeding purposes will not be sufficient to meet the requirements of poultry farmers in the North Island until next season’s supplies come on the market, the Hon. B. Masters, Minister of Industries anch Commerce, stated m Wellington yester-. day. In order to protect the interests of poultry-keepers, the Government has decided that a quantity of wheat suf l ficient to meet the requirements of the industry up to December shall be imported from Australia. Arrangements for shipments have been put- in hand’. The Government has agreed to allow this wheat to be imported free of duty and primage. Thus the industry will be assured of full supplies at prices not in excess of those r»H»g at present. Existing stocks in the South Island are considered sufficient and the importations are being confined to the North Island., It is exp*eeted thnt the first shipments will arrive at Wellington about October 9,. Auckland about OcI tober 11, New Plymouth about October 113 and Napier about October 24. Merchants should make immediate application to the Wheat Purchase Board, Christchurch, for the total quantity they require during the months of October and November.—(P.A.)
