STRONG ROOM FORCED.

BURGLARY AT UPPER HUTT. SUM OF £37 STOLEN. WELLINGTON, August 9. Thieves broke into the offices of the Upper Hutt Borough Council late last night or early this morning and with the use of gelignite broke open the strong-room, taking the sum of £37 in money. A resident nearby believes she heard the sound of an explosion about 12.30 a.m. Entry was made by forcing a rear window. The money was to have been used for the payment of relief workers.—(P.A.)
