MOTOR CYCLISTS INJURED.
ACCIDENT IN HIGH STREET ' LAST NIGHT. TWO VICTIMS IN HOSPITAL. More or less serious injuries were sustained by two Masterton residents, Mr. Jack Nicholls and Miss Ruby Winter, when a motor cycle they were riding collided with a motor truck in High Street early last evening. Both the injured persons were conveyed to the Masterton Hospital and it was reported at a late hour that their condition was satisfactory. The accident occurred at the intersection of High Street and Walton’s Avenue about 6.45 p.m. Mr. Nicholls, who resides in Cornwall Street, was proceeding to town with Miss Winter on the pillion seat. The motor truck concerned was driven by Mr. Phillip Stevenson, a labourer, residing in Victoria Street. Mr. Stevenson was travelling across the Triangle from Kurfpuni Street and the front of his vehicle had almost reached Walton’s Avenue when the collision occurred. The motor cycle struck the left hand side of the cab of the truck and the two riders were thrown heavily to the roadway. When Mr. Stevenson pulled up he found Mr. Nicholls and Miss Winter lying on the road near on the left hand side of the truck. They both appeared badly injured and medical aid was immediately sought. After being attended to by Dr. A. M. Scott the injured were conveyed to hospital in the ambulance. Each victim was found to have a leg broken, and both were suffering from cuts and abrasions. Miss Winter also received head injuries. Their condition last night was reported to be satisfactory. Miss Winter resides in High Street. The motor cycle was extensively damaged but only minor damage was done to the left front mud-guard of the motor vehicle.
