LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The new oak altar, given by a parishioner, will be dedicated during the evening service at St. Matthew’s Church to-morrow for use in the Memorial Chapel. The following donations to the Rabies’ Milk Fund are acknowledged with thanks by the hon. treasurer, Mr. J. V. Dolan:—Mrs. D. Donald, Johnston Street, ss; Waingawa Freezing workers, 5s 9d; J. A. Betts, 2s 6d. The Masterton Road Cycling Club will hold a 15-mile race to-day, starting from the Kuripuni Triangle at 2.30 p.m. The following riders will take part:—Deane, Swanson, Ireland, 6min.; Burns, Simin.; T. Sayers, 3min.; Rigg, W. Pye, G. Pye, 1 min.; Hanley, Osborne, scr.
The Wairarapa Automobile Association has been advised that a big slip occurred in the Manawatu Gorge last evening. The road is completely blocked and it is anticipated by the Public Works Department that the slip will take a. week to clear.
While nothing definite is announced, it 'is understood that several B class radio stations are organising to urge Government action concerning the gramophone record ban, and intend to ask the Government to allow them the right to earn revenue with which to pay a reasonable copyright fee, a Dunedin Press Association message states. It is probable that the stations will apply for leave of absence from the air, and while silent will organise listeners to assist their demand.
To-morrow morning the Rev. G. F. Stockwell will be the preacher at Wesley Church, when the Girl Guides will attend the service. The junior choir will sing the anthem "Gospel Bells.” In the afternoon the Wairarapa Methodist Bible Class Union (consisting of both young men and young women’s classes throughout the district) will hold its annual thanksgiving service in Wesley Church when the address will be given by Mr. Cyril Burton, of Wellington. The service will conclude with the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The evening service will be conducted by Mr. Burton. The Rev. G'. F. Stockwell will preach at. Rangitumau in the afternoon. The Rev. W. McDonald will take the service at Kuripuni in the morning and at Solway at night, Mr. Bate taking the evening service at Kuripuni.
