EX-SERVICEMEN PROTEST.
SERIES OF RESOLUTIONS: AT INVERCARGILL. DISTRIBUTION OF JUBILEE HONOURS. INVERCARGILL, May 6. The following resolutions were carried by the executive of the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association this evening: (1) That the RJ3.A., composed of ex-servicemen who have proved their loyalty to their King and country view with disapproval the action of headmasters in refusing to parade representatives from their respective schools on such an important occasion as the King’s Jubilee; (2) that this R.S.A. dissociates itself entirely with a resolution passed by the Auckland R.S.A. whereby it condemned the offer of help from New Zealand in the event of trouble; (B) that this executive committee views with regret the distribution of some of the Jubilee honours, as the medal is a personal souvenir from his Majesty, presumably for service rendered to one’s country in either a military or civilian capacity; this association considers that the party responsible for the recommendation of the honours has placed paramount importance on the acquisition of worldly goods or support lent by political supporters as being of more, consequence to the Empire than service rendered in time of war or disinterested labour and Sacrifice in time of peace.—>(P.A.)
