At the Ahiaruhe-Ponatahi Sports at Carterton on Saturday the judging competitions resulted as follow:—Cheese, weight lOlbs. sJoz., Mrs. T. A. Herrick, Martinborough, lOlbs. soz. A meeting called by the Mayor of Greytown Mr. H. T. Rees, was held on Monday evening to discuss the formation of a Beautifying Association. There were thirty residents present, and the Mayor was elected to the, chair| An Association was formed on a satisfactory basis. The Mayor was elected patron; Mr. R. W. Tate, president; Messrs D. P. LoasVy, W. A. Tate and W. J. Knell, vice-presidents; Miss Tate, hon. secretary; and Mr. J. W. Barnard, treasurer. A good committee was set up. A subscription of 2s 6d per member was decided, upon, and practically all present joined the association.

A letter from the All India Hockey Federation was before, a meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association at Christchurch last night. The letter stated that the terms offered by New Zealand were- aeceptable and that a team of players, which would be fully representative of hockey in India would be sent. Gable advice stated that the team would arrive in Wellington on May 13 for a tour of ten and a half weeks and leaving Auckland on. July 26. Subject to suitable arrangements being made the team will visit Australia at the end of the New Zealand tour. Provincial associations will be asked to apply for matches before March 31.—(P.A.) At a meeting of the Wairarapa Kennel Club last night, it was decided to hold a Ribbon Parade at the Park Oval on Saturday, April 13. The following judges were selected:—Messrs G. F. Birkett (Isporting dogs), J. F. Thurston (Alsatians), O. G. Ellis (terriers), E. Brown (all other breeds). All the judges are residents of Masterton. It was decided to add a visitors’ variety class to the show schedule. Mr. B. J. Cahill was appointed acting-secretary owing to the secretary (Mr. O. G. Ellis) being appointed to act as a judge. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs R. J. Cahill, 8. D. Geary, E. Cooper- and O. G. Ellis was appointed to go into the question of holding a dance on the evening of the parade. A meeting of the management committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at Memorial Park yesterday morning, to consider the question of reconstructing the grandstand which was damaged by the hurricane that swept the Wairarapa last October. After inspecting the building, the committee decided that a sub-committee be formed, to meet on Monday next, to go into the matter of rebuilding the grandstand, at a cost not to exceed 2500. On receipt of the sub-commit-tee’s report, tenders will be called as soon as the plans and specifications are available. It is expected to have the grandstand ready for occupation by May 4, when the championship matches are to start.

Torrential rain, amounting to over 4} inches, fell in several areas during the 24 hours up to 9 o’clock yesterday morning and caused heavy flooding in the far north for the fourth time within the last three months, though of lesser extent and seriousness than on the previous occasions, states a Press Association telegram from Whangarei. The severest effect was at Kaeo, which is completely isolated for the time being. A wide sweep in the Mangakahia district is under nine feet of water, and all other routes to centres further north are impassable. South of Whangarei the conditions are also bad in places, and there is eight feet of water on the road between Taipuha and Mareretu. The deluge was accompanied by a violent north-east gale.
