FIELD DEMONSTRATION

FARMERS’ UNION- & WOMEN'S DIVISION. GATHERING AT SOLWAY PROPOSED. A sub-committee from the Wairarapa Fanners’ Union executive, by invitation, waited upon the Women’s Division of the Union at Masterton yesterday to complete arrangements for a combined field demonstration day to be held at the Solway Showgrounds on Saturday, March 30. The Women’s Division is to be responsible for its own ■particular form of entertainment by ■providing demonstrations in hand and art craft, together with possible instruction in domestic science. The men will be entertained by demonetratioins on live stock, and freezing carcases, veterinary lecturettes and by practical farm operations. In addition, the wcial side will receive attention during the luncheon hour, when refreshments will be provided by the members and suitable Items will be arranged by the Women’s Division. It is anticipated that Mr. W. J. Polson ((Dominion President) will be asked to open the proteedings and the presidents and members of neighbouring provincial districts of both organisations will be invited to attend.

Last evening Messrs J. Watson and O. E. Niederer, who were deputed to meet the Masterton Young Farmers’ Club executive, discussed with that body the possibility of the club co-op-erating with the union at the demonstration. The Farmers’ Club executive pointed out that the club was distinctly not under the auspices of any parent body and while its members were quite willing to give wholehearted individual assistance to the combined demonstration they could not officially associate themselves with this particular project. At a later date it was pronosed by the Young Farmers’ Club to hold a somewhat similar field day, entirely organised by the club, in which both the Women’s Division and the Farmers’ Union had promised their full support.
