CARNIVAL ATTRACTIONS.

CARD PARTY AND DANCE. A 1 card party and dance for Miss Mollie Collier will be held in the Savage Club Rooms to-morrow night commencing with card games from 7.45 to 10.30, and dancing till 1 a.m. Refreshments will be provided by a ladies' committee. A big carnival will be held on Saturday, September 8. This event promises to be a red letter one in the many Queen Carnival festivities. MOVIE STAR CABARET. TO-MORROW NIGHT’S NOVEL ENTERTAINMENT. Novelties in plenty will be in evidence at the Movie Star Cabaret to be held in the Municipal Hall to-morrow night in aid of the Y.M.C.A. candidate Miss Edith Ralph, in the Queen Carnival. Features of the cabaret include a song and dance in costume, an exhibition of the Carrioca, the very latest dance and a charming ballet by a troup of youthful performers. The Whoop-ee Boys and the Blue River Dance Band will provide tuneful music and business firms are specially decorating the cubicles, which will be available at 2s 6d per person. Already there has been a big demand, for tables and many bookings have been pencilled in. Prizes will be awarded for the best impersonations of movie stars, male or female. Tables and? cubicles may be reserved at the Arts and Crafts. A description of the cabaret is to be broadcast by 2ZD between 8 and -10 p.m. and Madame Carle has agreed to describe the frockings.

Some people are under an sion, Mr. J. A. Betts, chairman of the cabaret committee states, that the 7s 6d double ticket only entitles the holders to admission to the cabaret. This is not so. The 7s 6d ticket entitles the holders to two seats ‘ at a table, which may be reserved free of charge, special savoury supper and carnival favours. The - only further charge made will be for an extra late supper, after midnight. This will be provided, for those who desire it, at the modest price of 6d per head. BASKETBALL FOB MEN. TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY. The Y.M.C.A. Queen Carnival Committee is introducing a further novelty on Saturday evening next in the form of a men’s six-a-side basketball tournament. The games will be played under rules which ;will, permit, freedom of movement bn the field in a manner suitable tdi men's play, but they will be strictly! controlled. Twenty teams have already entered for the tournament and •others • desiring to do so must advise the Y.M.C.A. beforb to-morrow evening. This promises to be one of the most entertaining events held to date in connection • with the carnival and spectators as! well as players are assured of an. amuhing evening. ’• HOCKEY MATCH. BORTHWICK’S v. W.F.C.A. On Saturday a hoekey match between teams representing the W.F.C.A. and Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd. will be played on the Lansdowne grounds. The game is creating a lot of interest and there should be a large number of spectators. A collection will be taken up on the grounds in aid of the business candidate, Miss Mollie Collier, in the Y.M.C.A. Carnival. Both firms will be fielding strong teams which contain many notable players. For Borthwick’s outstanding players ftvili include W. L. Bell (New Zealand, Wairarapa and Canterbury representative), A. O’Cain (Wairarapa rap.), Stubbings and Hedley (prominent Wairarapa players) to say nothing of such sprinters as A. Corskie, C. X Chapman and P. Borthwick. The W.F.C.A. also have many star players, L. Brooks (North Island and Wairarapa representative), while E. Steer, F. Williams, D. Costello have all worn the green jerseys. Given -a fine day, a very interesting game should result, and the carnival funds should benefit considerably. The teams will line out as follows:—
