The death in England of Dr. Arthur E. Marsack, formerly a prominent practitioner in Auckland, is reported ia a Press Association message from that city. A Dunedin Press Association telegram reports that the death occurred yesterday of Mr. Henry Shakespeare Feenwiek, aged 73 years, a well know* sharebroker in that city. Hitherto the Masterton Baantifying Society has been without a patron, but at last night’s meeting of the society Mr. C. Er was unanimoualy elected to tMt position in recognition of his interest and help. Mr. W. Stewart, Crown Lands Commissioner and Chief Surveyor, Christchurch, has been appointed ValuerGeneral in succession to Mr. T. Brook, who retired recently on superannuation.—(PA..) The late Hon. Walter Bennett, member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales, whose death occurred in Sydney on Monday, was born in Carterton . Mr. Bennett’s father was one of Carterton’s best known settlers and established the first newspaper in the town, the "Wairarapa Valley Guardian.” At the annual meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society last night a motion of condolence was passed with the family of the late Mr. James Allan, who was an enthusiastic member of the society. The president, Dr. Archer Hosking said the late Mr. Allan was a faithful member of the society and a good citizen. AU deeply regretted his passing. The funeral of the late Mr. O. J. Percy, of Te Ore Ore, which took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon was largely attended by settlers from all parts of the district. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church in the morning by Father N. Moore, the hymns being sung by the children’s choir. Father Moore referred to the Percy family’s long association with the church, the organ having been presented by them. At the funeral in the afternoon, Father Moore conducted the service at the residence and also at the graveside. Many very beautiful wreaths were received. The pallbearers were Messrs Clarence, Colin, W. and J. Percy, R. Smith and J. Donovan, all nephews of the late Mr. Percy.
