ORGANISED BAND ACTIVEI
SYDNEY, July 16. It is reported from Wau, New Guinea, that a sensation has been caused by the discovery of an organised band of gold-stealers on the Bulolo goldfields. It is believed that the gang has been sending gold on a big scale to a receiving centre at Hong Kong; depriving the Commonwealth Government of large amounts in royalties. A private detectiv.e was sent to the goldfields some time agp from Sydney and since, working as a dredge hand, obtained evidence which led to the arrest of certain persons, regarded as important links in the scheme. Three men, found in possession of gold specimens and also retorted gold, suspected to have been stolen, have all oy been sentenced to imprisonment for varying terms.
