FARMERS’ UNION.

CARTERTON BRANCH ANNUAL MEEETING. The adjourned annual meeting of the Carterton branch of the NewZealand Farmers’ Union was held on Friday. In the temporary absence of the president (Mr. W. J. Thomas), Mr T. Anderson occupied the chair. Messrs. Chas. Reid and P. Hodder were elected delegates from the branch to attend the .Interprovincial Conference to be held at Wanganui. It was resolved to support the following Eketahuna remits to come up for discussion at the conference:— “That an effort be made to have the standard of grading pigs made more uniform and that the matter of the charge of 6d insurance be inquired into, as this branch is of opinion that this charge is not 'warranted.** “That it be a recommendation to the conference to have the high retail price of milk investigated, as ample supplies are now available at greatly reduced cost."*

It was decided to support the Featherston remit: “That the conference protest against any alteration to summer time as previously regulated from October to March.”

The Eketahuna remit, “That the conference request the Government to make the present summer time operative throughout the whole year so as t ? become New Zealand’s standard time, was turned down on the voices. Ifte branch endorsed the Masterton remit.?: (1) “That all bona fide dairy farmers be licensed, and (2) that be- ♦ hcense be granted, a fixed standard of efficiency and cleanliness be achieved to the satisfaction of the JJairy Inspector.” .
