MEETING OF TTNUL BRANOIfe. The May meeting of the Tinui. W» men’s Institute, at which Mrs. Et w Schofield presided, was attended by a large number of membpra. One. new member was welcomed. An intnreeting demonstration on pine-needle work was given by Mrs. Crewe, to, whom a hearty vote of thanks was aooorded. Samples of attractive pine needle baskets on view were admired: by alt A competition for the-best shortbread was a popular one and brought berth many entries, the results were’: Mia» Johnston, 1; Mrs. D. H, Speedy, 2; Misa Holdsworth, 3. Mesdamos Campbell and J. Johnston kindly acted: as judges. The harvesting of the potatoes created much interest, and Mrs. R H. Schofield’s crop, with a yield of eighty pounds, won first prize, white the Misses A. and L.. Schofieldr gained edtond' and third places respectively. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. Owen, P. Parker and Mias Margaret Innes. Two delegates, nampJy, Mesdames Horsbrugh and Sehoflifc were nominated to attend the conTjK enee to he held in Masterton iehte month. The singing of the National Aritheiw concluded the meeting. KAITUNA-FBBNBIDGE. The monthly meeting of the KaitnnaFernndge Women’s Institute was held in rhe Kaituna Hall on Friday last Mrs. Kier, vice-president, being in the chair. Several new members were enWMled and general business was dealt with, incteding arrangements fbr the ftrtheomiag Federation meeting on May 24. A very interesting demonstration on the making of fancy bankets with flax and raffia, and several delightful musical items by Mrs. Morton, were greatly appreciated. Afternoon tea was served by the hosteases, r ’- J - Shaw, Mrs. Wadham and Mrs. Walsh, and the singing of the National Anthem closed a most enjoyable afternoon.
